Greenland Rolling Clinic

Barrier Island Kayaks is pleased to host Cheri Perry and Turner Wilson for an intensive 1-day Greenland Rolling Demonstration and Instructional on Tuesday, April 18, 2006.

Cheri Perry and Turner Wilson in their element.

Class quota is now reached, further sign ups will be on a stand-by basis.

Enjoy a day of kayak rolling instruction and demonstrations followed by a slideshow with refreshments. We hope to work in a short evening paddle tour of the area if time and energy allows. Turner and Cheri will bring a selection of traditional skin-on-frame qajaqs, paddles, and tuiliqs for loan. You are also welcome to bring your own kayak and kit.

Cost will be $125 per person for the intensive full day. Group size for instruction will be limited to 12. For the demonstration, paddle tour and slideshow, we hope as many as possible will attend. If you are interested in attending for one of the non-instruction segments of the day, please contact Lamar at 252.393.6457 for details.

Time: April 18, 2006. We want to be able to begin at 9am, so arrive around 8 or 8:30. Plan now to attend!

Notes: You do not have to be a Greenland-style paddler or have a roll now to attend this event, although a basic roll will speed you to learning new things. Greenland rolling is superb cross-training for more modern whitewater and sea touring. Dress for sustained immersion in water temps in the 50s to low 60s. Bring shell garments suitable to block wind for time out of the kayaks. Noseplugs and goggles or dive masks might not be a bad item to pack either. Your normal footwear may not fit in the skin qajaqs, so a pair of neoprene socks may be helpful. If you are not very limber now, you may want to begin gentle stretching exercises to maximize your enjoyment and comfort at this event.
