| BCU 3 Star |
|
Training: The BCU 3 Star course will engage the paddler in developing flat water kayak handling skills to create the desired movement of the boat. Rather than drilling rigidly defined technique, we teach these principles and practical strokes through a cause and effect approach. Assessment: BCU 3 Star assessment will require the candidate to demonstrate an understanding of the equipment, safety, hypothermia, access, environment, planning and group awareness. The practical focuses on lifting, carrying and launching the kayak, efficient forward paddling, reversing and stopping, moving sideways, preventing capsizes through low and high braces, ruddering and turning strokes, sculling for support, edging control, basic knowledge of towing, and Eskimo rescue. The 3 Star paddler should demonstrate a solid foundation skill for rolling even if there is not a "bombproof" roll yet. They should also be able to provide evidence of at least three 10km journeys. Time: 1 day Venue: Flat water Course Fee: $150 |
